Great Wines From California's Central Coast
Went on a fabulous tour of California's Central Coast wineries, sponsored Carlos Lopes, managing director of the Hotel Bel-Air --a romantic, intimate celeb hideaway and primo place to stay in Los Angeles, but check it out for yourself, after all I wrote most of the copy for their web site:(www.hotelbelair.com). Carlos is a wine aficionado and helps hand select the wines stocked for the hotel's restaurant. We began our trip at Fess Parkers Wine Country Inn & Spa (www.fessparker.com) where we tasted some mighty fine wines and ate an equally scrumptious gourmet lunch prepared by HBA executive chef Douglas Dodd. For those too young to remember, Fess Parker immortalized Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett back in the 1950s and 60s in the movies and later on TV.
Before lunch I went around and sampled some mighty fine pours from Fess Parker, Au Bon Climat (love their Chard), Beckman, Brander, Fireston, Foley, Hitching Post, Kunin, Leah, Qupe, Summerland, Vincent and Zaca Mesa Vineyards. We're taking cream of the crop Chards, Cabs, Merlots, Zins and more. Of course more were poured during lunch.
California has really arrived on the wine front from Central Coast up to Napa and Sonoma. If you're into wine you really should plan to spend some time touring those areas. It's worth the price in gas.
